Andrea Birch is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who provides compassionate, evidence-based care to patients throughout their cancer treatment journey. She joined Katmai Oncology Group in 2019 and has become a trusted clinician known for her calm presence, collaborative approach, and commitment to supporting patients and families with clarity and compassion.  Andrea’s professional background spans oncology, hematology, emergency care, and complex medical and surgical settings, giving her a comprehensive understanding of the challenges patients face throughout diagnosis and treatment. This broad clinical foundation strengthens her ability to assess treatment tolerance, manage symptoms, evaluate laboratory and radiographic data, and educate patients on chemotherapy regimens and potential side effects. At Katmai, she also performs bone marrow biopsies and works closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care. 

Andrea earned her Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization from the University of Colorado and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Luther College. Her approach blends evidence-based practice, clear communication, and a strong belief in partnership with her patients. 

Patients appreciate Andrea for her thoughtful explanations, steady leadership, and ability to create a reassuring environment during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She is dedicated to helping each patient feel informed, supported, and heard throughout their care. Outside of work, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family and embracing Alaska’s outdoor lifestyle.
