Dr. Beckworth was a physician for the U. S. Public Health Service, serving in a variety of locations with extensive and varied responsibilities.  He has served as a primary care physician, ophthalmologist, internal medicine, and supervising clinics and field hospitals.  He later sub-specialized in oncology and soon began working in his present practice.

Dr. Beckworth has received several awards for his distinguished service with the U. S. Public Health Service.  Additionally, he has served on the Board of Directors, Hospice of Anchorage; Medical Advisory Board, Blood Bank of Alaska; and has been a student mentor for the Anchorage School District.

For the past twenty years, Dr. Beckworth has been leading the development of a cancer prevention project for Alaska Natives.  He has created a computerized registry to enable analysis of cancer incidence and survival to aid in both treatment and prevention.

Using his organizational skills, Dr. Beckworth has been instrumental with several organizations.  He has been Program Director on several occasions, planning interesting and challenging meetings for members.

• Funded Cancer clinical trials through Cooperative Groups, such as:
  Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG)
  National Surgical Adjuvant Breast & Bowel Project (NSABP)
  Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)

• Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) with access to investigator initiated trials through:
  Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC)
  University of Washington Medicine

In his spare time, Dennis likes to travel both in and out of Alaska.  His explorations have taken him throughout Alaska as well as to the far corners of the globe.  He is an excellent photographer with a collection of superb photos which capture memorable views of his travels.
